Volunteering

What Do Volunteers Do?

Volunteers operate as trainers that develop an untrained or trained dog into a basic guide dog. They also participate in community events hosted by The Guide Dog Next Door to raise awareness for guide dogs and the blind community.

Who Can Volunteer? 

To be eligible to be a trainer with The Guide Dog Next Door, you must meet the following criteria. 

  • Be over the age of 13

  • Have no history of animal cruelty

  • Adopt an enthusiastic attitude

  • Minimum of 4 hours of shadowing with The Guide Dog Next Door Head Trainer

Why Volunteer?

By volunteering with The Guide Dog Next Door, you get free access to dogs and are able to enjoy their companionship without the expense or responsibilities of dog ownership. The Guide Dog Next Door also awards volunteer hours and has yearly special prizes for the most dedicated volunteers.
